I Rocked Out With Delain!

Dateline: Seattle, March 2016 -Trouble

I drank my fill of Vodka waiting for the show to start. Delain was opening up for Nightwish and even though I was there for Nightwish, seeing Delain was an extra treat. About a minute before the music started I threw back my last shot and grabbed my man’s hand. We started to make our way through the packed crowd to get a better spot in the mosh pit.

The lights flashed, the crowd cheered and the music thrashed. I jumped up and down, threw my hands in the hair and head banged with the rest of the fans. Charlotte Wessels, lead singer of Delain greeted the crowd in a black halter top and fluffy vest. She and Merel Bechtold, their female guitarist slung their hair around in classic metal fashion to the trashing music.

I spent the next hour in Delain bliss. The Vodka giving me a good buzz and the music taking me to a concert high. Singing along to lyrics like, “suckerpunch the demons from my dreams,” I was in Goth heaven…if there is such a thing.

Of course I wanted to get closer to the stage. Rocking out twenty feet from the band wasn’t close enough for my preference. So I started to work my way closer. Trust me, as a roller derby skater and coach I have no problem knocking bitches out of my way. Comes with being an alpha female who likes hard liquor, full contact sports and metal music.

For those of you who don’t know who Delain is, they are a Dutch symphonic metal/Gothic metal band. They formed in 2002 by former Within Temptation keyboardist Martijin Westerholt, and Charlotte Wessels. If you don’t know who Within Temptation is, then you need to spend the next week on this website doing your homework.

The name of the band comes from the Kingdom of Delain in Stephen King’s novel, The Eyes of the Dragon. So in my not-so-humble opinion, horror, dragons, metal and Goth rock make for an epic band.

So back to my night with Vodka and Delain…I will tell you I made one fucking mistake that night. I did not know I would be going to the Delain/Nightwish concert till last minute and did not get my press credentials in on time to interview the bands. So, to all MY fans who wanted me to interview them personally, I am really sorry. But I did get to whip my hair, rock out, drink and have the night of my life with all you amazing Goths in Seattle!
